News Design, Portfolio

Below are three examples of designs I created to ease navigation between multiple galleries within a package:

washingtonpost.com: Colombia's Coca Battle

Colombia’s Coca Battle – This was the first project I ever worked on for washingtonpost.com. Not sure why they felt it appropriate to throw me a package about cocaine on my first day, but I digress. Anyway, this was a nice ‘intro to Post design’ as I worked with the gallery templates and had access to amazing Post photography. The package contains three audio slideshows, which divide the story into three parts: life in the southern Colombian state of Narino, growing the crops, and removing coca from the area.

washingtonpost.com: The Legacy of Lady Bird Johnson

The Legacy of Lady Bird Johnson – This package was developed to commemorate the life of Lady Bird Johnson upon her death in 2007. It’s divided into five thematic portions containing photography spanning several decades and concluding with imagery from her funeral. When designing this package, I wanted to highlight a large portrait of her with a warm color palette and feminine feel. I pulled one photo from each theme into the design and created a snapshot-like presentation to help users navigate into each gallery. Because of Lady Bird’s love of nature and gardening, I used flowers for background texture to emphasize warm, joyful tones.

washingtonpost.com: A Host to the World

A Host to the World: China’s Hopes and Fears for the Olympic Games – The Beijing Olympics produced tons of captivating stories about athletes and sports. But in the months leading up to the games, the Chinese government faced an array of logistical challenges. This audio slideshow package illustrates four of the overarching concerns from pollution and security to pubic dissent and global media scrutiny.
